“Who hath believed our report and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?” (Isaiah 53:1)

The comparison of God to us as human beings is found many places in the Bible. We are told God has feet, eyes, and ears. After all, spiritually and physically, we are made in His image. (Genesis 1:26,27) Although God is not a man, He possesses many of the attributes and emotions we possess. He laughs, He becomes angry, and He can rejoice.

In Psalm 8:3 we are told God created the universe with His fingers. What an incredible thought! Our fingers are not known for great strength. Yet, with little effort, God used His fingers and created galaxies, planets, and star systems without number. Imagine God flinging the Milky Way into place using only His fingers!

In Hebrews 1:10 the writer tells us God created the earth with His hands. “The earth declares His handiwork.” There is more strength in your hands than in your fingers. It took more power for God to create the earth than it did the universe. God took time to mold the earth, shape it, and prepare it for His crowning creation, man. This tells me, next to heaven, the greatest place in the universe is earth! Heaven and earth continually work together.

Yet, Isaiah 53:1 tells us the work of redemption took the arm of the Lord. This verse begins an entire chapter on the redemptive work of Jesus on the cross. It took more power to redeem one sinner than it did to create the universe and the earth. God had to roll up His sleeve to purchase us from Satan’s curse and Adam’s fall.

Ephesians 1:19 tells us when God raised Jesus from the dead it took “the exceeding greatness of His power.” In other words, it took more power than God had ever used when it came to raising His Son from the dead and conquering Satan’s power.

Anyone can look into the sky at night and see the work of the fingers of God. The stars and planets are visible to all. Anyone can also look at the earth, the mountains, oceans and animals that live here and see the work of God’s hands.

But only those who put their trust in the work of Jesus on the cross can see the work of God’s arm. The arm of the Lord is revealed to those who believe the report. Aren’t you glad you have believed the gospel message, God’s report?
