Recently, as I was studying the subject of the name of Jesus, I received some fresh insight that so excited me and refreshed my understanding that I wanted to share it with you. I believe it will ignite your faith as well!
“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name…” (Philippians 2:9)
As I was meditating on this verse, it suddenly struck me that I was given a name to use which had first been given to Jesus Himself. At the resurrection, Jesus demonstrated that His name is powerful – it has been proven against all of Satan’s kingdom. After the resurrection, Jesus turned the use of His name over to us, the Church. The devil and all of his demons have to submit to us just as they do to Jesus.
The name of Jesus was powerful before the resurrection. It was used by the disciples to cast out devils (Luke 10:17). But His name on our lips is even more powerful on this side of the resurrection. Jesus gave us the power of attorney to use His name to produce supernatural manifestations of the Holy Spirit.
Just before He ascended back to heaven, Jesus told His followers that in His name they would cast out devils and lay hands on the sick and see them recover (Mark 16:17,18). This wonderful promise was not just for the ones who had gathered there. It is for every believer, not just a chosen few. This promise is for you!
A Reality Check
But how many devils have you cast out today? How many sick people have you laid hands on this week? For many of you the answer is “none,” or maybe "just a few.”
There must be more to the name of Jesus than supernatural manifestations of healing and deliverance. Thank God, there is!
A Name For All That We Do
“And whatsoever ye do in word of deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him.” (Colossians 3:17)
The name of Jesus should be a apart of our every action, both in words we speak and in the things we do. Jesus isn’t just with us in times of crisis. He wants to assist us in our everyday lives, not just in times of sickness or oppression. The name of Jesus should be used in prayer, in daily decision making, in conversations with our mate and children, in business transactions, when we are doing homework, cooking, cleaning, and in our leisure time.
Jesus does not want to be separated from our daily lives and relegated only to times of need. He wants to be involved with us in both the great and the small moments of our lives. He wants us to do everything we do “in His name.” As we involve Him, we will see a tremendous difference in the effectiveness of our words and actions as well as in the joy and peace we experience.
What About Today?
What are you doing today? Why not include the name of Jesus and give each situation a touch of the supernatural? It won’t bother Jesus to become involved in the mundane parts of your life. It will bless Him to bless you. Just as Jesus was interested in helping Peter catch fish and collect money to pay his taxes, He is desiring to help you with your finances, your relationships, your health… in fact, all of your everyday human concerns.
As a result of what the Lord has shown me about the supernatural effects of the Name of Jesus, I have determined to make full use of the name of Jesus in everything I do!
