Live Amazed

Bob Yandian

Jesus said in Matthew 6:25, “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?” That verse is such a simple truth but carries profound power. What was Jesus doing here? He was turning our eyes away from the temporary and pointing them toward the eternal. And how did He do it? By pointing to something right in front of them—birds flying overhead and lilies blooming at their feet.

He said, “Look at the birds.” That’s what I love about Jesus—He used what was already there. He didn’t say, “Let’s turn to the scroll of Isaiah.” He said, “Look up!” The birds were flying right over their heads. “Look at the birds,” He said. “They don’t sow, they don’t reap, they don’t gather into barns. And yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of much more value than they?” (Matthew 6:26)

This is a reminder you and I need every single day. If God takes care of birds, how much more will He take care of you? He didn’t die for the birds. He didn’t shed His blood for the lilies. He died for you. He redeemed you. You are His child. You are in His family. And if God has a plan for the birds, He has a plan for you.

Look and Consider

Then Jesus said, “Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow” (Matthew 6:28). Now this is different from looking at the birds. The birds were flying—here one moment and gone the next. But the lilies? They don’t move. They are right there at your feet. And Jesus said, “Take a moment, really think about this flower. Pick it up, look inside it, look at the petals. See the detail, the design, the beauty.”

Lilies don’t toil or spin. And yet not even Solomon in all his glory was dressed like one of these. That’s what Jesus said. You can’t outdress a flower. With all the money, jewels, and robes Solomon had, he still didn’t match the glory of a simple flower. God made that flower. He clothed it. And He takes better care of you.

We live in a world that runs at 90 miles an hour. People are running everywhere. But Jesus tells us to stop, look, and consider. You want answers? Start by doing that. Look at the birds. Consider the lilies. Watch creation. And remember—God made all this and upholds it daily. How much more will He take care of you?

A Plan for Nature, A Plan for You

There is a plan for nature. There is a plan for when the birds migrate south, when they come back north. They follow routes and patterns they never learned in school. God has encoded it into them. If God takes that kind of care for birds and didn’t even die for them, what about you?

God sustains the stars, the planets, the ocean tides, and every snowflake that falls. And He didn’t redeem the planets. He didn’t go to the cross for the universe. He went for you. You are part of the eternal plan of God. A plan that spans beyond time, into the ages to come.

Psalm 139:14 says, “I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.” David didn’t say his mirror told him that. He didn’t say his feelings told him that. He said his soul knew it. When you begin to meditate on the wonder of creation and your body, you start to see that God designed you with purpose. You are not here by chance. You are walking out a plan laid out by God Himself.

Stop and Be Amazed

look in the mirror and we don’t see the wonder of God. We see blemishes, wrinkles, fat, hair out of place. And in life, we do the same. We look at the little problem and blow it out of proportion. A bump becomes cancer. A delay becomes disaster. And we panic. But if we stop and look at how God has already worked, we begin to see differently.

When was the last time you stopped and really admired a flower? Or watched a bird soar across the sky and just marveled? That’s not just nature. That’s a sermon. That’s God speaking to you without opening your Bible.

Romans 1:20 says, “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made.” The heavens declare the glory of God. The stars, the clouds, the variety in snowflakes, even the creatures in the ocean depths are all shouting, “There is a God!”

If God would take the time to design every snowflake differently, if every planet in the sky is unique, if every flower on earth has its own pattern—what does that say about His plan for you?

God Does the Impossible

We live in a world where man builds buildings, cars, and computers. And we are impressed. But we can’t make a blade of grass. We can’t create one flower. God made all this and then sent Jesus to die for us.

You are not a mistake. You are designed, you are called, you are equipped, and you are covered. God has taken care of you before you were born, and He has made provision for you in eternity.

Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” You are His workmanship. His masterpiece. You are the supernatural creation of a supernatural God.

Remember the Miracles

The supernatural brings amazement. And you know what amazement does? It revives your joy. It restores your perspective. And it causes you to glorify God.

In Mark 2:12, after Jesus healed a lame man, it says, “They were all amazed and glorified God, saying, ‘We never saw anything like this!’” You may have seen miracles before, but don’t let them become routine. Don’t let the supernatural become familiar.

I remember being in meetings where healings happened, people were filled with the Spirit, lives were changed—and there were folks looking at their watches, saying, “When will this be over?” They got used to it. They became numb to it.

Psalm 103:2 says, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.” In other words, remember. Remember what God has done for you. Keep a journal. Rehearse the testimonies. Tell your kids. Let it stir up wonder in your heart again.

Get Back Your First Love

Revelation talks about leaving your first love. That first love isn’t about emotion—it’s about amazement. Remember how amazed you were when you first got saved? When you first realized your sins were forgiven, your name was written in heaven, and your life had eternal meaning?  That awe can be restored. You can get back your first love. You can choose to be amazed again.

Recapture the Wonder

David danced before the Lord when the Ark was returned. He didn’t forget the importance of God’s presence. But many had. Israel kept going through the motions even when the Ark was gone. Don’t let that be your story. Don’t just go through the motions. Recapture the wonder.

Start looking around. Watch the birds. Consider the flowers. Think about the snowflakes, the ocean, the stars. Think about the healing in your body, the miracle in your finances, the salvation of your child. God is still working today. And the moment you open your eyes, you will see it.

The supernatural life is not a once-in-a-while event. It is the Christian life. You walk in it daily. Don’t let walking on water become “normal.” Don’t let the supernatural become common. Never let your life become ham hock!

Live Amazed

Everything about your life is a miracle. Your salvation, your provision, your protection, your future—it’s all supernatural. And God surrounds you with little miracles every day, reminding you, “I’ve got you. I’ll never leave you. I’ll never forsake you.”

So, what do you do? You make a decision. You say, “Today, I will look. I will consider. I will be amazed.” You refuse to be numb. You refuse to walk in fear. And you choose to walk in awe.

Psalm 55:19 says that people don’t fear God because they don’t change. That’s the root of it—people become stuck, stagnant, and lose the wonder of God. Don’t be that way.
